I'm not sleeping with a tomato!

Oh, those middle of the night thoughts.
I know you know the ones I am talking about it.
You wake up and boom...there it is.
Pesky little thought that starts out tiny.
Then as you lay there it grows, because the dark and quiet feeds it like Miracle Grow.
Before you know it...that thought has turned into this giant stinky elephant that is laying beside you in the bed. It it doing a river dance on your brain and the inability to go back to sleep gives it the rhythm it needs to keep going.

Your nodding your head...see...we all have them.

Well, let me tell you about the one I had last night.
Somewhere between sleep and awakeness, (I know that's not a word, but I like it)
around 3 in the morning....boom...a sentence is rolling around in my head.

"Probably a tomato"

Yeah, that is what I was thinking.
Huh?
It sounds like an answer to a very deep question, so as I laid there, I began to ponder the question that came before this indepth answer.

"Hey honey, I have a pile of lettuce in here, what should I put on it?"...probably a tomato

"Does anyone know what that is laying in the corner of the bathroom?"...probably a tomato

"Ewww...what is that on your shirt?" ...probably a tomato

"What do you want for Christmas?" ...probably a tomato

"What is the next thing they will say is bad for your health?" ...probably a tomato

The list went on and on in my head and at 3am I really thought I was solving the world's problems. All along, I was losing valuable beauty sleep.
I did at some point remember something that God had shown me once after spending night after night allowing other, probably a little more substantial thoughts to ruin my sleep. He advised me:
"We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ."
2 Corinthians 10:12.

No matter what it is that has you laying there awake, be it taxes, finances, job concerns, sick child, marriage problems or....a giant tomato. Take it captive, put bars around it, separate it from the Truth and hand it over to Jesus. You don't have to lay there and let that mole hill become a mountain...demolish it! That's what I did, with a tomato it was a little messy but I was not going to sleep with a giant tomato!
